Following the conclusion of a disappointing first season in the Southern Conference League, we are delighted to announce our first ever club tour to Amsterdam, Netherlands. The Bulls head out to the Dutch capital at the end of September to face 2019 NRLB Championship runners-up, the Amsterdam Cobras. The match takes place on Saturday 28th September with the venue and kick off time to be confirmed.
The players are very much looking forward to being part of the first club tour and experiencing the Dutch culture, as well as the challenge of playing against new opposition. Tour captain Ash Sohier says “With 7 internationals in their squad, we’re excited to take on the Amsterdam Cobras. They made the Grand Final this year but fell just short so no doubt they’ll be looking for a bit of redemption against a travelling English team. Hopefully it’s the start of something more formal between the 2 clubs.”
Founded in 2014, the Cobras have already found success in the Dutch Championship after winning the Grand Final in 2018, beating Den Haag Knights 29-28 in an extra time thriller! Unfortunately they were unable to repeat their success this season with Den Haag getting revenge on the Cobras 20-16. This victory gave the Knights their first Grand Final win after 4 previous years of reaching the final and coming up short. The Cobras play their home matches at the same venue as the Netherlands national rugby union team, on the outskirts of the city. Recently the Cobras have been boosted by having 7 of their players selected to represent the Dutch national team, who sit 26th in the current world rankings.
